I am experiencing dry mouth, and especially in the morning I feel I have this bad odour. Could anyone please advise which is the best product, cause i do have periodontal disease, and it is connected to that too, but I see many offers on the internet and have found “the bad breath book” that costs $29,90 and is based on natural remedies that you can use from your home, stating that these big companies sell expensive and non-efficient products. I have researched the causes and sometimes going to the dentist is not enough! So who do I believe, I cannot believe those testimonials out there, so I need some of your advise and personal experience please.

Bad breath is caused by bacteria and the sulfur produced when the bacteria breed, basically. Most common reason is not brushing your tongue well enough. People w/ periodontal disease have more bacteria than others. Rinsing w/ hydrogen peroxide at night after brushing and flossing will help cut out some of the extra bacteria left in pockets.

Swish, spit, do not rinse or eat or drink for 30 minutes. It will bubble down into the bottom of those gingival pockets and kill what you miss with brushing and flossing. It will also help with your perio disease. If you take lots of medications this can cause dry mouth and increase bad breath because the saliva is not there to wash bacteria away.

Trying over the counter try mouth remedies ( rinses, toothpastes, candies) or sucking on sugar free candies or chewing sugar free gum can help increase saliva.

i've heard that rincing with peroxide can help but it sounds a bit scary! where would you get it anyway and should you dilute it?
same with baking powder – is it like a teaspoon to a cup or what?
i no mints/gum and stuff can mask the smell but any tips for actual cures?
also what causes it? ive heard that meat can agrevate (spelling i know!) it but im veggie
so any tips? free home cures would be especially appreciated

You should see a dentist if you are worried too much.

+ Don't chew gum. When you chew gum, you keep a lot of spit in your mouth, so gum isn't killing bad breath germs. Use mints. It kills bad breath germs better.

+ Keep away from bad foods. Eat healthy

+ Before you brush your teeth, get a hot hot hot wash cloth and put it on your tongue. That will loosen up bacteria on your tongue, and kill some as well. Then brush.

+ Brush your tongue

+ Brush your gums

+ Brush behind your teeth as well

+ Brush the inside cheeks of your mouth

+ Use a great mouth wash after you brush your teeth

+ Brush your teeth twice a day, but I recommend three times a day.

+ Floss! It can get in between your teeth and get rid of those nasty food particles.

+ Use a toothpaste that helps fight against bad breath.

+ I dont know any "real" home cures. But if you go to a homeopathic (all natural) store, you can get something in a green bottle called Chlorophyll (ask a person who works at the store if that is the correct name. clor-a-fil). It is a leaf or something that fights against bad breath. I used it before, works very well. Not too expensive either.

Then my breath has that old person, moth ball smell and regular mints and gum don't really help take the icky taste out of my mouth. Drinking water helps a little but not as much as I would like. Is there something I can take for this odor? it's driving me crazy that whenever i'm sick or suffering from allergies i have this problem!!!! help!!!! I asked the dentist when I was getting my wisdom tooth pulled out, but because he couldn't smell anything at the time, he just said he didn't know and wouldn't help.

Gargle a cup of lukewarm water mixed with salt or half a lemon juice. This is best done before going to bed. .Chew parsley leaves, which are sure to keep your breath fresh. More useful remedies at http://useinfo5.blogspot.com/

I've got a rhinitis problem because im allergic to dust mites. Could this be the cause of my bad breath? Does taking the nasal sprays help me cure the bad breath by removing the mucus in my nose?

I've tried tongue scrapping and mouthwashes, but all doesn't seem to cure my bad breath

help me!!!!

The proteins in mucus create the bad-smelling sulfur compounds, and dry mouth also creates odor.

Neti pot rinsing with salt water daily can help.

Crest Pro-Care toothpaste and mouthwash are excellent – much cheaper than Breath Rx. The mouthwash is alcohol-free and the germ-killing effect lasts a lot longer than Listerine.

Bad breath (Halitosis) is an unpleasant condition that causes embarrassment and major frustration. Most people who suffer from bad breath aren't even aware they have a problem, until they get too close to another person.

Bad breath is caused by several different factors, i.e. what you eat, dry mouth, smoking, or not brushing correctly (or long enough). Bad breath may also be the sign of a medical disorder, such as a local infection in the respiratory tract, chronic sinusitis, postnasal drip, chronic bronchitis, diabetes, gastrointestinal disturbance, liver or kidney ailment.

Although maintaining good oral health is essential to reducing bad breath, brushing and flossing your teeth along with rinsing with mouthwash may not be enough. Most people do not have the time to follow these recommendations 2-3 times per day, as recommended by most dentists. Even when most people follow the advice of their dentist as recommended, they still end up having chronic bad breath.

Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, is an infection of the tissues that support your teeth. Your gum tissue is not attached to the teeth as high as it may seem. There is a very shallow v-shaped crevice called a sulcus between the tooth and gums.

Periodontal diseases attack just below the gum line in the sulcus, where they cause the attachment of the tooth and its supporting tissues to break down. As the tissues are damaged, the sulcus develops into a pocket: generally, the more severe the disease, the greater the depth of the pocket.

Periodontal diseases are classified according to the severity of the disease. The two major stages are gingivitis and periodontitis. Gingivitis is a milder form of periodontal disease that only affects the gums. Gingivitis may lead to more serious, destructive forms of periodontal disease called periodontitis and can also cause bad breath.

Several warning signs that can signal a problem:

1. Gums that bleed easily
2. Red, swollen, tender gums
3. Gums that have pulled away from the teeth
4. Persistent bad breath or bad taste
5. Permanent teeth that are loose or separating

Watch me in a video about this question on Answers on the Street: http://answersonthestreet.yahoo.com/question/13/What-causes-bad-breath-and-how-can-I-cure-it/

Whether you call it bad breath or halitosis, it’s an unpleasant condition that’s cause for embarrassment. Some people with bad breath aren’t even aware there’s a problem. If you’re concerned about bad breath, see your dentist. He or she can help identify the cause and, if it’s due to an oral condition, develop a treatment plan to help eliminate it.

What you eat affects the air you exhale. Certain foods, such as garlic and onions, contribute to objectionable breath odor. Once the food is absorbed into the bloodstream, it is transferred to the lungs, where it is expelled. Brushing, flossing and mouthwash will only mask the odor temporarily. Odors continue until the body eliminates the food. Dieters may develop unpleasant breath from infrequent eating.

If you don't brush and floss daily, particles of food remain in the mouth, collecting bacteria, which can cause bad breath. Food that collects between the teeth, on the tongue and around the gums can rot, leaving an unpleasant odor.

Bad breath can also be caused by dry mouth (xerostomia), which occurs when the flow of saliva decreases. Saliva is necessary to cleanse the mouth and remove particles that may cause odor. Dry mouth may be caused by various medications, salivary gland problems or continuously breathing through the mouth. If you suffer from dry mouth, your dentist may prescribe anartificial saliva, or suggest using sugarless candy and increasing your fluid intake.

Tobacco products cause bad breath. If you use tobacco, ask your dentist for tips on kicking the habit.

Bad breath may be the sign of a medical disorder, such as a local infection in the respiratory tract, chronic sinusitis, postnasal drip, chronic bronchitis, diabetes, gastrointestinal disturbance, liver or kidney ailment. If your dentist determines that your mouth is healthy, you may be referred to your family doctor or a specialist to determine the cause of bad breath.

Maintaining good oral health is essential to reducing bad breath. Schedule regular dental visits for a professional cleaning and checkup. If you think you have constant bad breath, keep a log of the foods you eat and make a list of medications you take. Some medications may play a role in creating mouth odors. Let your dentist know if you've had any surgery or illness since your last appointment.

Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste to remove food debris and plaque. Brush your tongue, too. Once a day, use floss or an interdental cleaner to clean between teeth.

Mouthwashes are generally cosmetic and do not have a long-lasting effect on bad breath. If you must constantly use a breath freshener to hide unpleasant mouth odor, see your dentist. If you need extra help in controlling plaque, your dentist may recommend using a special antimicrobial mouth rinse. A fluoride mouth rinse, used along with brushing and flossing, can help prevent tooth decay.

bad breath may sometimes be caused by the foods you eat, but often its the work of germs in your mouth which are found naturally.

you can decrease this by using antiseptics such as listerine, which will actually kill the germs that cause bad breath (just like the commercial). they now have them in little "to-go" packs which dissolve in your mouth. Brushing your teeth after meals will also decrease bacteria in the mouth.

Typically gum will not do anything, other than temporarily mask the odor. Worse, if it's one with sugar, all you're doing is providing more food for the bacteria.

Not a big garlic eater or anything like that. Even after brushing teeth… breath really stinks after about five minutes.

Any ideas on the cause or cure?

Some of the oral bacteria that create the waste products that are responsible for causing bad breath live in the dental plaque that accumulates on and around a person's teeth, both at and below the gum line. A thorough brushing and flossing technique is needed in order to remove this plaque and also remove any food debris that is left in the person's mouth after eating that could be used as a food supply by these bacteria.
Most people overlook cleaning their tongue, however, starting to do so on a regular basis can be the single most beneficial treatment for bad breath (halitosis) that a person can institute.

The posterior portion of the tongue in comparison only rubs up against the palate (soft palate) relatively gently during tongue movements. This soft palate contact does not provide enough friction to produce any significant cleansing. For this reason it is typically the posterior aspect of the tongue that is found to harbor the bacteria that cause a person's bad breath, and thus the posterior tongue is the most important area to clean.
There are various methods you can use to clean the posterior portion of your tongue.
Your toothbrush or a specialized tongue brush can be used to clean your tongue. To do so, start as far back as possible and then make brush strokes outward, toward the front of your mouth. You need to use some pressure but of course not enough to cause irritation to your tongue.

If you allow yourself to become dehydrated your body will try to conserve moisture by reducing its production of saliva. Saliva has a cleansing and diluting effect on the bacteria and bacterial waste products that cause bad breath. A reduction in the amount of saliva in your mouth can make it harder for you to control odors associated with your breath.

Rinse your mouth with water often.
Stimulate your mouth's flow of saliva.
Clean your mouth well, especially after eating foods high in protein content.

If you are on the lookout for the bad breath remedy that can work for you, the best place to start is definitely the doctor. Your doctor can give you more information on what type of bad breath remedy is best for you, and give much more solid advice than anybody else out there as they know the ins and outs of your body better than anybody else.

Just in case, here is a bad breath remedy or two for your own personal use. Whether or not they work for you is up to you, but it is important to make sure that you are doing everything you can to find the right bad breath remedy for yourself, to make sure that you re able to have close encounters with people in a comfortable way.

Drink More Water!

The number one cause of bad breath, outside of neglecting to properly brush and floss teeth is a dry mouth. If you do not drink enough water, chances are that your bad breath is due to the lack of moisture in your mouth, so be sure to check that out. It is important to drink enough water for many reasons but bad breath is only one of them.

Dump the Mints, Sprays and Gum

At best they only mask the problem. They may even make your bad breath worse. There is a better way to really cure your bad breath problem.

If you just cannot get into the habit of drinking more water, try eating more fruit. Fruit is packed with water and a good way to get extra water in the body. This is also a good way of altering your diet to cure your bad breath as well.

Change the Way You Eat

If you eat a lot of meat and very little fresh fruits and vegetables, that could be to blame for your bad breath. Eating more fresh food and less protein is a great bad breath remedy that really works for many people, especially those who already brush and floss on a regular basis and do not seem to have a problem drinking enough water or getting enough moisture into the body.

Let go of the steak and have a salad. It is a bad breath remedy, and one that works. Just try it and see. Bad breath is easier to cure than you think.
